New Year\'s Eve:

1 New Year's Eve Celebration
Las Vegas is becoming a hot destination for New Year's Eve celebration. About 250,000 visitors celebrate New Year's Eve each year in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is trying to make it a bigger event for the New Year's Eve of 2005. A laser light show and a $500,000 fireworks show, called "America's Party: Las Vegas New Year 2005." is planned for this year. More than 30,000 explosives will be detonated at 10 hotel locations along the Strip (from Excalibur hotel to Stratosphere Tower hotel) at midnight. There will be a countdown from 10 to 1 by fireworks generated numbers. The fireworks show will last about seven minutes.

The majority visitors will spend the New Year's Eve on the Strip or in Downtown. Many hotels have special New Year's Eve parties. Admission varies. Shows performing on New Year's Eve will charge a higher admission than normal days.

If you are planning to drive here on the New year's Eve, you should better be here before 5:00 pm. The Strip will be closed to traffic from about 6:00 pm. After it is closed, you can only use alternative streets.

The hotels in Downtown will have a big party on the Fremont Street starting at 5 PM. There will be light and sound show, live performances throughout the night. The street will be closed. You need to buy tickets to attend the party. The tickets are $35 each.

It is recommended to be careful to drive on January 1st. Do not drink and drive. The police will be out there checking on major streets.
